Unable to search or sync SKUs [Troubleshooting]

If you're unable to find a SKU on the Restock Inventory page or the app is unable to synchronise it, the most common cause is an invalid SKU format.

Why Does This Happen?

Flo SKU Sync searches products using Shopify's SKU field. Shopify's APIs do not handle SKUs containing spaces or special characters reliably, which can prevent the app from finding or synchronising those products.

According to Shopify's SKU guidelines:

"Don't use special characters, symbols, or spaces, because these can cause problems when searching for products in Shopify by SKU and in other computer programs, such as spreadsheet software."

Supported SKU Format

For the best compatibility, use only:

  • Letters (A–Z)
  • Numbers (0–9)
  • Hyphens (-)
  • Underscores (_)

How to Resolve the Issue

  1. Open the product or variant in your Shopify Admin.
  2. Review the SKU value.
  3. Remove any spaces or unsupported special characters.
  4. Use only letters, numbers, hyphens (-), or underscores (_).
  5. Save the product.
  6. Return to Flo SKU Sync and search for the SKU again.

Best Practices

  • Use a consistent SKU naming convention across your store.
  • Avoid spaces and special characters in SKU values.
  • Use only hyphens (-) or underscores (_) as separators.
  • Ensure duplicate products use exactly the same SKU for proper synchronisation.

Tip: Using Shopify's recommended SKU format helps ensure reliable searching, inventory synchronisation, and compatibility with Shopify APIs and third-party apps like Flo SKU Sync.
