App Limitation for Quick Orders on same SKU

Flo SKU Sync is designed to synchronise inventory across products and variants that share the same SKU. However, there is a rare edge case when multiple orders for the same duplicate SKU are placed within a very short period.

Because inventory synchronisation takes a few seconds to complete, a second order received before the first sync finishes may temporarily result in an incorrect inventory update.

Example

Suppose all products with SKU ABC currently have an inventory of 57 units.

Order #1001

  • A customer purchases 2 units of SKU ABC.
  • Shopify reduces the inventory to 55 units.
  • Flo SKU Sync begins updating all products and variants that share SKU ABC to 55 units.

Sync in Progress

Updating every duplicate SKU may take a few seconds (or, in some cases, up to a couple of minutes) depending on the number of products and Shopify API processing time.

Order #1002

Before the synchronisation completes, another customer places a second order for SKU ABC.

Since some duplicate products may still show the previous inventory level, the second inventory calculation could be based on outdated data, resulting in a temporary inventory mismatch.

Impact

In this rare scenario:

  • Inventory may become temporarily out of sync across products sharing the same SKU.
  • The discrepancy occurs only when multiple orders for the same SKU are received before the previous synchronisation has finished.

Important Note

This is an uncommon edge case that can occur when multiple orders for the same duplicate SKU are placed in rapid succession. The delay is caused by the time required to update all duplicate products and Shopify API processing limits. For most stores, inventory synchronisation completes within a few seconds.
