Limitation to sync inventory for Same SKUs ordered in an order

Flo SKU Sync is designed to keep inventory synchronised across products and variants that share the same SKU. However, there are a few edge cases where inventory synchronisation may not be immediate or may result in temporary discrepancies.

1. Multiple Products with the Same SKU in a Single Order

When a single Shopify order contains multiple products or variants that share the same SKU, inventory synchronisation may not always update all duplicate products immediately.

This is due to the complexity of processing multiple line items with the same SKU within a single transaction, which can temporarily affect how inventory deductions are synchronised.

Example

Suppose you have two products with the same SKU:

  • Product A – SKU ABC
  • Product B – SKU ABC

A customer places one order containing:

  • Product A × 2
  • Product B × 3

Since both products share the same SKU, Shopify processes multiple inventory deductions within the same order. In some cases, Flo SKU Sync may require additional time to synchronise all duplicate products, resulting in a temporary inventory mismatch.

2. High-Frequency Orders for the Same SKU

Another rare scenario occurs when multiple orders for the same duplicate SKU are placed within a very short period.

Because inventory synchronisation takes a few seconds to complete, a second order received before the first synchronisation finishes may temporarily result in an incorrect inventory calculation.

Example

Suppose all products with SKU ABC currently have an inventory of 57 units.

  1. Order #1001 is placed for 2 units, reducing the available inventory to 55.
  2. Flo SKU Sync begins updating all products and variants sharing SKU ABC to 55 units.
  3. Before the synchronisation completes, Order #1002 is placed for the same SKU.
  4. Since some duplicate products may still display the previous inventory level, the second inventory calculation could be based on outdated data, leading to a temporary inventory discrepancy.

Important Notes

  • These are rare edge cases and do not affect normal day-to-day inventory synchronisation.
  • In most stores, inventory updates are completed within a few seconds.
  • Temporary discrepancies are typically resolved once the synchronisation process finishes.
  • These limitations are primarily caused by Shopify's order processing sequence and API timing rather than the synchronisation logic itself.

Note: Flo SKU Sync continuously synchronises inventory based on supported inventory events. However, when multiple products with the same SKU are purchased in a single order or when several orders for the same SKU are placed almost simultaneously, temporary inventory mismatches may occur until the synchronisation process is complete.
